Learn how to create an automation workflow

Getting started with Automation

To get started with Retainful’s automation feature navigate to Retainful dashboard -> Automation. Click on the ‘Request early access’ button to get early access to the automation. Our Team would approve your request within 24 hours and you should be able to access the Automation Feature then.
Once you are granted access to the Automation Feature you may view the screen as below:

You may start setting-up the Automation by either selecting from one of the predefined templates or by creating a custom workflow from scratch. In both cases, all of the workflow steps can be changed.

Setting-up Automation Workflow

To create new Automation, you need to proceed to the Retainful Dashboard->Automation tab -> click on the Create workflow button -> pick the workflow from the default one available or choose to Create custom workflow by clicking on Create from Scratch.
If you choose to go with any of the default workflows available then you can see the automation workflows with the different number of messages, some of them have only 1 Email and some of them have 3 Emails and similarly different waiting period as well. You may change the structure, remove or add more messages for the default workflow as well.

Activating the Automation Workflow

To activate the workflow you have already created and set live navigate to Retainful dashboard->Automation tab->click on Switch to Automation Workflow button.

IMPORTANT NOTE: Once you click on "Switch to Automation Workflow" button then all your legacy emails would disappear from the Retainful Dashboard. If you wish to retain the legacy email back then you may consider clicking on the "Switch back to legacy email sequence" button.

Migrate Workflow

If you have already created an Abandoned cart recovery email campaign and Next Order Coupon email follow-up campaign in the legacy email model, then you can consider to migrate those email sequences into the automation workflows. Thus help you save productivity.

To Migrate the Email campaign set under Legacy Email sequence:

  1. 1.
    Navigate to Retainful Dashboard->Automation tab -> click on the Migrate workflow button
  2. 2.
    Select either of the below workflow type:
  • Abandoned Cart : If you wish to migrate your Abandoned cart email campaign from legacy email model.
  • Post Purchase: If you wish to migrate your Next Order Coupon email campaign from legacy email model.
3. And then click on "Migrate". That should help you to migrate the email campaign set under the Legacy email model.

Once migration is completed, you should be able to find the migrated email workflow. The migrated workflow can be found in the ‘Draft’ status by default.
You can follow these steps to set the workflow to Live,
  1. 1.
    Click on the ‘Edit workflow’.
  2. 2.
    Then you can view the email workflow.
  3. 3.
    You can customize the workflow as per your wish if required.
  4. 4.
    Click on the ‘Start workflow’ button once when you’re ready to set it live
Make sure to click on the “Switch to automation workflow” button at Retainful dashboard -> Automation, before setting the email workflow live.
