Creating a Segment

Learn how to create a segment in the List & Segments feature in Retainful.

Follow the below steps to create a segment,

Step 1: Login to your Retainful dashboard -> List & Segments

Step 2: In the List & Segments section, click on the ‘Segment’ tab and click on ‘Create Segment’

Step 4: Now, you will be redirected to the page where you can choose to create your segment using custom conditional filter rules or using our ready-made segments.

Creating a segment using readymade segments

To add contacts to the segment using a readymade segment, you can just click on the ‘Use this rule’ button that appears above your preferred segment.

In the next step, you can find the conditional filter rules determined for that segment.

You can edit the rules if you would like to make any changes to the segment. Otherwise, you can just click on the back button to find the list of contacts that match the filter condition.

Now, the contacts that match the filter rules will be added to the segment. Also, the contacts who match the rules in the future will be added to the segment automatically. If a contact no longer matches the rules, the contact will be removed from the list automatically.

Creating a segment from scratch

To add contacts to the segment by creating custom segment rules, you need to click on ‘Create from scratch’.

Then, you need to click on the ‘Add Filter’ button to find the conditional filter rules. Select the rule of your choice and apply the filter.

For example, if you would like to create a list of contacts who have subscribed to receive emails, you can set up the filter rules like the one below,

NOTE: You can also use multiple conditional filter rules to create a list. And, you can use the AND, OR conditions to combine filter rules within a filter group and between filter groups.

Once filter rules are added, you need to click on the ‘Save Segment’ button to find the list of contacts that match the conditional filter rules.

That’s it. Your custom segment is created successfully.

Now, the contacts that match the filter rules will be added to the segment. Also, the contacts who match the rules in the future will be added to the segment automatically. If a contact no longer matches the rules, the contact will be removed from the list automatically.
