Font Manager
Fonts play a crucial role in how your email is perceived. Beyond just delivering a message, the right font enhances readability, reinforces brand identity, and influences how professional and trustworthy your email appears. A well-chosen font helps guide the reader's attention, conveys your tone, and ensures consistency across all touchpoints
Best Practices for Fonts in Email Marketing Branding
1. Use Web-Safe Fonts
Stick to web-safe fonts like Arial, Helvetica, Georgia, Times New Roman, Verdana, and Tahoma.
These fonts are supported across most email clients, ensuring consistent rendering.
If you use custom fonts, always define fallback fonts.
Limit Font Variety
Use 1–2 fonts max in a single email to maintain visual coherence.
One for headlines (bold, eye-catching).
One for body text (clean, readable).
Avoid mixing too many styles or families, as this can look unprofessional and cluttered.
Maintain Readability
Font size:
Body text: 14–16px
Headlines: 20–28px
Line height: Use around 1.4–1.6x the font size for body text to improve readability.
Avoid script or decorative fonts for long text blocks.
Avoid script or decorative fonts for long text blocks.
Match Your Brand Style Guide
Use fonts that align with your brand identity.
If your brand uses a custom font, use it in images or selectively with fallbacks.
Set consistent font weights and colors to match brand aesthetics.
5. Ensure Accessibility
Maintain a high contrast between text and background.
Avoid overly thin or light fonts that are hard to read.
Ensure text is large enough for mobile devices.
Test Across Email Clients
Email clients (like Outlook, Gmail, Apple Mail) render fonts differently.
Use tools like Litmus or Email on Acid to preview your emails.
Step-by-Step Guide to Using Google Fonts in Your Emails
Step 1: Access the Font Manager
In your Retainful dashboard, go to the Font Manager and click the Get Started button.
Step 2: Select your Google font
Select your preferred font from the dropdown menu. You can also type the font name in the search bar to find your desired font quickly. After selecting your font, you can preview it along with all its variations. You can select the specific variations you want to include.
Step 3: Choose your Fallback font
After selecting your desired font, choose a fallback font. The fallback font serves as an alternative that will be displayed if the custom font is not available on the recipient's device.
After selecting your fallback font, click "Save" to import the Google font.
Step 4: Apply the imported font to your emails.
Open the email in the email editor where you want to apply the imported font.
Select the text you want to customize, then use the Font Family dropdown to apply the imported Google Font.
NOTE:
Fallback fonts ensure that your emails display correctly, even in email clients that don't support Google Fonts.
Once added, Google Fonts can be used across all email campaigns and templates in Retainful.
